Houston TX . - The Christian Outdoor Coalition (COC)(501(c)(3)) is a Faith based youth and family outreach program located in Houston TX . Our coalition consists of community and faith based organizations that share our same goals and values. The Christian Outdoor Coalition’s purpose is to provide mentoring and build self-esteem in inner-city youth while having fun participating in outdoor activities throughout the State of Texas .

The outdoor educational curriculum is provided by Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPW) educational programs. Members of the COC staff are TPW trained instructors in hunter education, angler education, camping skills, and conservation. Members of our staff are Certified Huntmasters in the Texas Youth Hunting Program, overseeing Youth Hunts throughout the state of Texas . Many of COC’s camping and field activities are held at TPW sites and facilities.

The coalition’s mission is to educate and offer positive life change options to very youth that desires to participate in the program, regardless of their financial status.

The future of COC includes the purchase of what will become The Christian Outdoor Coalition Youth Ranch. The Ranch is located in Giddings , TX on 600 acres of rolling hills with 16 tanks stocked with bass, catfish and perch. Here our youth will be educated in Wildlife Management, Agriculture and Livestock care & handling through Partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas A&M and Prairie View A&M   Universities.

While our program is open to all, our focus is at-risk and low-income youth in the Houston- Harris County area. It is our belief that given the opportunity children of our community can find purpose and direction through the educational and recreational opportunities that COC provides. On average COC provides outdoor opportunities to 400 to 600 inner-city youth each year on the contributions from several entities, our main support coming from the City of Houston Mayor ’s Anti-Gang office and often the personal resources of the COC staff itself.
